It is important for us to support companies that care about their employees and our planet. We want to be a part of more sustainable and honest food production that positively contributes to our dog’s health, people and the planet.

Insect Protein is Circular

A circular economy is based on reusing, reducing and giving new life to what we consume. The focus is to create as little waste as possible and use the resources we have with consideration. Creating more circular economies is an important part of sustainable development and combating climate change.

Insect protein circular economy

The larvae we use in Nala Health eat spent grain from beer production in addition to fruit- and vegetable waste providing fibre and nutrients. For every 1kg of insect protein, they divert 5kg of nutritious grains and plant-based waste that would otherwise have ended up in a landfill.

The waste product from larvae production is called frass and is an excellent fertiliser. The frass is used on local farms, closing the production loop.

Our insect protein is a clean, highly digestible source of nutrition, produced without the use of growth hormones or antibiotics.

Beyond its nutritional benefits, black soldier fly larvae production is also significantly more sustainable. It requires far less land, water, and feed compared to traditional animal protein sources, while generating substantially lower CO₂ emissions and greenhouse gases — making it a kinder choice for both your dog and the planet.
